In the coming days, there will be more than 100,000 people heading into Barcelona for the start of the biggest tech show in the world. The show will be held in the halls of the Mobile World Congress. New products will be put on display from the top players in the industry from around the world.
Huawei
One of the companies in particular that will stand out this year at the trade show is China’s Huawei. As soon as people get to the airport in Barcelona, they will see the company’s hospitality stand. The company’s brand can be seen throughout the entire city. Even the lanyards each attendee at the conference will wear is decorated with the company name and logo. There is a good reason for this. They are the world’s largest designers of telecom equipment this day and age.
According to CNN, the company is also a crucial component for China as they try to advance to a superfast 5G wireless network before any other company. They are constantly being caught in life and death battles with the United States government over the technology.
The United States claims that the company itself poses a national security threat that needs to be taken seriously. In January, prosecutors from the U.S. revealed they are charging the company will allegations that Huawei illegally took trade secrets and used them to ruin sanctions between the United States and Iran.
The company denies the claims from the U.S. prosecutors and is trying to salvage their reputation amidst the coming tech show. They are hoping it doesn’t deter people around the world from using their advanced 5G technology. They are hoping no one caves to the pressures coming out of Washington.
Huawei’s chairman has said these allegations are not something that needs to be decided by politics and is hoping the independent sovereign states will make their own decisions about the allegations instead of on someone else’s orders.
The United States government is trying to convince allies to not use equipment and technology from the Huawei company. They say their reasoning comes from the evidence the Chinese government plans to use the tech for spying. Huawei denies this claim fully, however. They say that just because the technology was created by a certain country does not mean it cannot be trusted or secure. The company has to abide by certain laws and regulations from the Chinese government just like any other country.
