LG revealed the G8 ThinQ at the beginning of this year. The flagship device featured a number of unique features and high-end hardware. Unfortunately, reviewers didn’t love the device, and consumers didn’t buy the device. Rumors have swirled for months about the company’s upcoming successor to the G8. Most analysts believe the device will be called the G8X and feature a more traditional approach to smartphones than its predecessor.
Authentication Methods Set To Change From The G8 to G8X
Recent renders of the device showcase an in-display fingerprint sensor. Although that’s a first for LG, the company tried multiple authentication options with the G8. That device featured a traditional fingerprint sensor, face unlocking cameras, and a palm reader. Palm reading as an authentication method was both clunky and frustrating on the device. Now it appears LG wants to craft a device that follows current trends.
Other Features Coming With The LG G8X
G8X renders reveal a teardrop front-facing camera and dual rear cameras. The all-screen device looks like a traditional LG smartphone with updated features. Also, most analysts believe the device will feature the Snapdragon 855 and various options for RAM and storage. Perhaps a more practical than experimental approach will lead the device to higher sales. Its featureset should fall in line with other manufacturers’ flagships.
When Will LG Announce The G8X?
The successor to the G8 ThinQ should be announced in Germany at IFA in September. LG tends to announce a major smartphone at the event each year. At this point, there’s no word on whether the device will support 5G, but it’s unlikely based on leaks. LG needs to hit a home run with its upcoming flagship to avoid continued losses in the smartphone market. Past quarters haven’t been kind to the company from a sales figure standpoint.
