Amazon has entered the home security market by launching a new suite of security products and services. According to TechCrunch, the e-commerce giant now sells security packages for homeowners on its website.
Amazon’s home security offerings include everything a homeowner needs to secure his or her home. Homeowners can choose from one of five packages, each of which has different products and services. The Outdoor Base package, for instance, features the Echo Dot, indoor lighting and outdoor lighting whereas the Smartest package features a siren, motion sensors, contact sensors, safety sensors, video surveillance camera, the Echo Dot, indoor lighting, outdoor lighting and even a video doorbell. Prices for Amazon’s home security packages range from $240 to $840. All packages include two at-home visits by Amazon security professionals to assist with installation.
So, how does Amazon’s new home security service works? First, the homeowner schedules a consultation with an Amazon security professional. When the professional arrives, he or she will asses the homeowner’s needs and provide recommendations on which security package to choose. During this initial visit, the security professional will also schedule a follow-up visit for installation.
Prior to the security professional’s second visit, Amazon will send the homeowner all the necessary equipment for his or her security package. When the security professional returns, he or she will install and configure the homeowner’s new security equipment. According to Amazon’s official website, the products included in its new home security packages are carefully selected based on customer reviews, innovation and product testing.
This is Amazon’s first true attempt to enter the home security market. The e-commerce giant already owns the smart doorbell companies Ring and Bling. Smart doorbells such as these contain video cameras so that homeowners can see who’s at the door even when they aren’t home. Therefore, they may provide some level of enhanced security for homeowners and their families. But Amazon’s new home security packages are designed specifically to protect homeowners and their property.
Security has become a top concern among homeowners. Statistics show that more than 2 million U.S. homes are burglarized each year. A security system, however, is a smart investment that can protect homeowners from burglary, vandalism and other criminal mischief.
