If you own a smartphone, it’s likely that you’ve downloaded several types of apps. Short for applications, these programs allow smartphone users to complete a wide variety of actions. Unfortunately, there are times when these apps aren’t met with widespread approval. Considering that, Apple recently made the decision to remove the Living Hope Ministries app from its database.
Living Hope Ministries Attitude Towards Homosexuality
There are many types of apps available for religious individuals. These apps allow people to watch sermons, read scripture and perform many other actions. However, Living Hope Ministries began accusing homosexual behavior of being both an addiction and sickness. In addition, this nonprofit organization’s main purpose is to change people from being gay to straight through both prayer and therapy. Needless to say, this is an extremely controversial approach that’s drawn the ire of many people.
Truth Wins Out Fights Back
The purpose behind Living Hope Ministries did not sit well with Truth Wins Out, a group that fights against anti-gay extremism in the world of religion. After learning about this app, Truth Wins Out created a petition to have it removed from Apple’s App Store. Within a short amount of time, this petition collected 356 signatures. After Apple took down the app, Truth Wins Out issued a statement applauding both this company and its CEO. NBC News reports that Wayne Besen, executive director for Truth Wins Out, stated that “ex-gay programs are consumer fraud.”
To summarize, Apple recently took down Living Hope Ministries’ app. This app counsels gay individuals wanting to turn straight through a combination of prayer and therapy. This type of therapy has gained the attention of the mainstream, recently being the subject of a movie called Boy Erased. Truth Wins Out is currently hoping to get Living Hope Ministries’ application pulled from several other popular platforms.
