Senator Amy Klobuchar Wants Internet Privacy Laws If She Gets The Big Job

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar has a reputation as a hard-ass according to her aides. Amy admits she’s tough on the people who work for her. She expects her aides to their jobs without the typical Washington drama. Klobuchar is a moderate Democrat. She’s not one of those candidates that want to push for all the changes liberal Democrats want to accomplish. But there is one issue Klobuchar thinks needs immediate attention, and that is establishing Internet privacy laws.

Amy will make Internet privacy the foundation for her presidential run, according to several news articles. The Senator claims Big Tech needs supervision. She wants the government to step in and protect citizens from the abuse and the invasion of privacy they experience from companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and others.

Klobuchar also wants to stop Internet providers from slowing down or blocking websites. And she wants every American household to have an Internet connection by 2022. Senator Klobuchar believes Internet privacy and other tech issues rank up there with healthcare for all, immigration reform, economic growth, and free college for all. Political experts say tech issues aren’t the major catalyst that forces people to vote. But thanks to Millennials, Internet privacy will be an issue candidates will face on the 2020 campaign trail.

But Amy Klobuchar also supports voting rights and climate change along with facing off with Silicon Valley. The European Union just passed Internet privacy laws so the United States needs to fix the flaws created by capitalistic social media sites. The big social media sites have privacy policies but they benefit their websites, not consumers, according to Klobuchar. More than 50 percent of Americans think the Internet needs more regulations, according to a Pew Research Center report. And 57 percent of Democrats think the Internet is out of control, according to the Pew Research Center.

Senator Klobuchar thinks technology will fuel the U.S. economy in the future. Young voters know economic growth will depend on technology more than the old school manufacturing methods. According to her aides, Amy knows her future will be in the hands of the younger voters in 2020.

The Senator introduced a privacy bill this year called the Social Media Privacy and Consumer Rights Act. Klobuchar bill has bipartisan support. But with all the chaos going on in Congress this year, her bill and other important legislation may sit in limbo until the Trump debacle is out of the way.
