Microsoft Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2 revealed, will ship later this year

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) going on this week, plenty of revelations will be made. That will include sneak previews of upcoming gameplay from a number of different titles. On the cusp of many of those reveals comes Microsoft unveiling their brand new Elite Wireless Controller to play games with.

As reported by Engadget, the new controller, called Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, will be a part of a $180 package that ships in early November. The controller itself features “adjustable tension thumbsticks” and “shorter hair trigger locks” for those who want to take their gaming to the next level.

A YouTube video showing off the impressive new controller calls the device “more elite than ever.” Included in the package will be wraparound rubberized grips as well as three custom profiles to use for switching between different games. Examples given include a first profile for Apex Legends, a second profile for FORZA Horizon 4, and a third for Gears 5.

The new controller features Bluetooth connectivity. It not only works for the Microsoft Xbox One game systems but also with Windows PC gaming. They mention gamers can use a special Xbox Accessories app on the Xbox One and/or Windows 10 PCs.

The controller contains an internal rechargeable battery and a detachable charging dock which gives it more wireless life than any controller before it. It’s billed as lasting 40 hours with just one charge, although results can vary based on other accessories in the mix.

The original Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller arrived back in 2015 during a Microsoft press conference at E3. It was billed as “an elite controller for the elite gamer” and included steel construction with a soft-touch plastic on the exterior for a softer feel. There were interchangeable rear paddle buttons, and the ability to customize buttons or paddle mappings as well as trigger and stick sensitivity through an app or program.

At 2016’s E3, they showed off a Gears of War 4 edition of that controller with a unique look based on the game’s theme. It also had specific weapon symbols on the D-pad to use with weapons used in the game. A leak arrived in January 2018 for a newer version of the Elite controller, but the plans for this particular controller were said to be canceled. Now those gamers who want professional-level precision will soon have their new controller.

The $180 Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is available for pre-order now at the Xbox.com website and officially ships out on November 4.
