Nintendo Switch Lite won’t support wireless headphones

Just days ago, the Nintendo company introduced their newest handheld gaming device, the Nintendo Switch Lite. It will allow video game enthusiasts to enjoy a portable gaming experience with the ability to play away from home and online against others. However, a recent finding suggests it will lack support for wireless headphones.

According to Business Insider’s report, the new Nintendo Switch Lite will have Bluetooth support. However, that won’t allow for connection of wireless headphones via Bluetooth. Instead, gamers will need to use wired headphones, or use some sort of attachment to the Switch Lite to allow wireless Bluetooth headphones or ear buds to work. So the new handheld device will bring a similar gripe as its larger predecessor, since the original Switch doesn’t offer wireless headphone support either.

Lately, many smartphones have started to move away from the use of wired headphones. The newer models of the iPhone eliminated the headphone jacks in favor of selling their own Apple AirPods, a wireless solution that allows for listening to music as well as controlling the Siri voice assistant, and making or taking phone calls. However, it appears Nintendo seems OK to leave the option out for now in favor of other features.

The Nintendo Switch Lite was revealed just a few days ago with an official video trailer and a lot of fanfare. It will carry a price of $199, and supports any Nintendo Switch games that allow for handheld mode. It won’t dock with the bigger Nintendo Switch, nor will it be able to connect to a television screen. The main focus is on the portability, as it will be lighter and more convenient to carry around. It will also pack more battery power inside, allowing three to seven hours on a single charge.

The Nintendo Switch has an official release date of September 20, 2019. While it will have just three colors available to choose from, another edition will arrive in November. That special edition will involve a Pokemon Sword and Shield theme in conjunction with that new game’s arrival in the same month.

The new gaming device should be a major seller for the holidays, but there will be a few gripes. Not being able to support wireless sound may be something that Nintendo needs to address in future Switch Lite updates or releases.
