Twitter Bans ‘misleading’ Climate Change Ads

Twitter has imposed a new ban on deceptive advertisements that oppose the consensus from the scientific community about the effects of climate change.

Twitter’s decisions bout what content about the effects of climate change are legit will be conducted by authoritative sources claims twitter. The IPCC has released a few of the landmark reports about the crisis over the last few months that will break down what is required to be done in order to adjust to the already unfolding changes as we as how to prevent even more serious effects in the near future such as ferocious wildfires and intensifying weather disasters.

Twitter also mentioned that it will share more details on how its plan of action increases authoritative and reliable context about the effects of climate change on the platform in the future. Over the last year, those conversations have gotten louder and louder according to Twitter. The subject of sustainability has increased by more than 150 percent on the platform since 2021. Twitter said that the discussions on decarbonization also known as the reduction of carbon gas emissions that comes from the burning of fossil fuel have increased by 50 percent. Several other environmental conversations have also grown. Talk about waste management has increased by over 100 percent over the same period of time.

The announcement from Twitter is also part of a wider saga in the social media space attempting to end the lies concerning climate change. Several other companies have made the same commitment but with varying success.

Google made a similar commitment back in October 2021 to stop accepting ads that feature the denial of climate change or that monetize from misleading information about climate change. Even so , there was a report released not long after the new policy was introduced that found Google was still allowing ads that deny the effects of climate change. Google said at the time it was reviewing the content of those ads and decide to take appropriate actions. Facebook has been criticized for failing to identify misleading information about climate change despite having a policy.
