Dallas has a long history of innovation and invention. Dallas is an epicenter for technology from the early days of oil and gas to today’s thriving tech sector. These are innovative developments from or in Dallas that have been making waves in the industry:
1) Uber
Uber has been a leader in the on-demand car service industry and was founded right here in Dallas. The company currently employs more than 100 people at its corporate headquarters, located just minutes from downtown Dallas near Love Field Airport. Uber’s rapid rise to success has made it one of our most innovative developments thus far. In addition to its headquarters in Dallas, Uber also has a presence in the Fort Worth metro area.
In 2016 alone, Uber’s trip numbers have doubled from 75 million to 150 million. If you haven’t heard of Uber yet, then the chances are that you will soon! With plans for continued growth and expansion into new markets worldwide, we’re excited to see what the future holds for Uber.
2) Toyota
The world’s leading automotive manufacturer has been a part of the Dallas landscape for decades. Founded in 1957 by Kiichiro Toyoda, his dream was to make high-quality cars and trucks that would be affordable and accessible to all people around the globe. Today, this vision is still alive and well at their massive assembly plant located in the southern Dallas suburb of Plano.
The Toyota plant is a sight to behold and has been featured in many car commercials over the years with the two giant golden arches that tower above everything else around it. The original plan for this iconic symbol was only temporary until they could build something more permanent. Still, due to overwhelmingly positive responses from employees and the community, it continues to stand tall today.
3) Medical District
Dallas is home to a large and vibrant healthcare community. One of the most impressive things about this sector of our city’s economy is how it has transformed over time, particularly its physical appearance. For example, there was once an old abandoned electric power plant on one side and parking lots on the other that have now been replaced with the world-class facilities of UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Today, more than 40 medical institutions call Dallas home and make up what is known as the “Dallas Medical District.” This impressive collection of healthcare organizations has transformed an area that was once in danger of being demolished into one of our city’s most important assets. The district continues to grow and attract top talent from around the world.
