Voice assistant technology is becoming more and more popular. One in every six homes in the United States makes use of a voice assistant such as those offered by Amazon and Google. Even though this technology has rapidly caught on with the public, the technology has much room to develop. Those who follow the developments in the tech world believe that there are big changes coming to voice assistant technology.
In the coming years, voice assistants will be equipped to deliver much more specialized knowledge. By the year 2021, Apple wants its voice assistant Siri to be able to answer more detailed health related questions for users. One system is in development that could help doctors and patients identify potential drug interactions.
More personalization is around the corner for voice assistant technology. It is already possible for voice assistants to match the accent and the phrasing of those with whom they are interacting.
One technology that may be only a decade away would expand the voice assistant’s ability to understand what the user wants. Technology is being developed that would allow voice assistants to interpret commands based on the facial expressions of the user or by reading the lips of the user.
According to techtarget.com, right now, voice assistants are limited in what they can do because they must wait for a request from the user before they perform an action. Tech analysts believe that in the near future, voice assistants will be able to act proactively. An example of this would be the voice assistant changing appointments throughout the rest of the day when they know that the user is already late for appointments early in the day.
Some tech developers believe that there might be a problem with introducing some technologies to the general public. People might react negatively to the voice assistant acting on its own. Time will tell how much technology people are willing to accept.
