Nintendo to Release Two New Versions of Switch

After struggling for years due to poor sales of the Wii U, Nintendo finally got back on top of the video game world with the release of the Switch in March 2017. The Switch was the best selling console in 2018, and it does not appear that Nintendo is looking to slow down in 2019. A recent report suggests that two new versions of the Switch will be hitting store shelves in only a few months.

One of the new Switch consoles will be an upgraded and enhanced version of the current model. Sony and Microsoft did something similar recently with the releases of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. This upgrade to the Switch is something that is desperately needed in order to future-proof the console. Nintendo’s popular console consistently struggles to display games in 1080p high-definition while the competition can run games in 4K resolution. A few other requested features will also be added to the sopped-up Switch.

A new handheld-only version of the Switch will also be released later this year. A lot of people were originally enticed by the Switch because of its portability, so this is something that fans have been wanting for a long time. Since it will not come with the home console, this device will be available at a much lower price than the other versions of the Switch. The lower price point will be a great way to introduce more people to the current generation of video game consoles.

The full details on the two new versions of the Nintendo Switch will officially be revealed during Nintendo’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. While they have not been officially announced, you can expect to see these two new video game consoles on store shelves before the upcoming Christmas season.
