CEO of Huawei Will Not Support Chinese Ban of Apple

There has been a lot of publicity surrounding the United States ban of the Chinese tech company known as Huawei. President Donald Trump has no love for Huawei. He has accused the company on many occasions of stealing American technology and intellectual property. There are also people who believe that Huawei is run by the Chinese government with the intention on spying on the United States. These are some of the main reasons why Huawei has been banned from doing any business on American soil. The drama involving Huawei has only gotten worse since the trade war between the United States and China has heated up during the past months.

Ren Zhengfei is the current Chief Executive Officer of Huawei. He was interviewed recently and he gave his thoughts on a wide variety of issues. One of the details of that interview that has gained a lot of publicity was the comment Ren made about a potential ban of Apple in China. Ren said that he did not think that China would ever think about imposing such a ban on Apple. First of all, there are two million people in China who are employed by Apple. The Chinese government is not going to put two million of their own citizens out of work.

Ren said that he would be the first person to protest if China ever did ban Apple from doing business in the world’s most heavily populated country. Ren feels that Apple is his teacher. Therefore, he could never go against his teacher. He would not support a ban. It has been estimated that banning Apple from doing any business in China would take away one-third of the company’s overall profits. The company would still survive. However, it would be hurt badly.

Ren said that he was not concerned about his company being banned in the United States. He said that Huawei became very successful without American people buying their products. Therefore, they do not need American sales to survive. The company needed to buy chips from the United States to power their phones. However, Ren said that Huawei will begin making their own chips in the near future. He is not concerned about the future of the trade relationship between the U.S. and China. He says it does not mean anything to the future of Huawei. His company will thrive even if they are never allowed to do business in America.
