For the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the fate of Apple’s iTunes. It would appear that Apple is going to get rid of iTunes and replace it with separate apps that are specifically dedicated to TV and music. This was just speculation until a few people on Reddit discovered that the iTunes Facebook and Instagram pages have had everything removed from them. They are basically blank at this point. Apple is going to start a very big developer conference on Monday. It is assumed that they will discuss what exactly is going on with iTunes at some point during the conference. It remains to be seen if that will happen.
According to a report by CBS News, there was another key indicator that iTunes would soon by disappearing forever. There were a few screenshots leaked that show the new apps that Apple is planning for TV and music that would effectively replace iTunes. It will be interesting to see if Apple users are willing to accept these changes. The Twitter page for iTunes has not be removed so far. It is not clear why Apple would leave the iTunes Twitter page intact if they are planning to get rid of it very soon.
There are rumors about other big changes that Apple has in store that will be revealed at the developers conference. However, there has not been any other leaks that would give people any concrete info about what is going to be happening. Apple is usually very good about keeping a tight lid on what they will be doing. That has not been the case this time. It is very surprising that there were screenshots of the apps leaked before Apple had a chance to announce them. This type of security breach so something that Apple typically does not allow to happen.
The removal of iTunes from the Apple ecosystem is the end of an era. It was enormously popular in its heyday. However, better ways to find the latest music have emerged that have rendered iTunes obsolete. This is the main reason why Apple is deciding to get rid of it. Some critics might say that this is a few years too late. People have been saying for the past several years that iTunes needed an upgrade. It is clear that Apple has heard the pleas of their users. It will be interesting to see how good the new apps are.
