The Sony PlayStation 5 rumors continue as video game fans await the eventual reveal of a new console. Based on the speculation, there are already rumors about the system’s price as well as how it well it will compare to the upcoming Xbox Scarlett.
The Comicbook website indicates that initially, a rumor about the PS5’s power compared to the new Xbox came via Andrew Reiner of Game Informer. He mentioned “he’s been hearing” that PlayStation will once again be dubbed “world’s most powerful console” compared to the Xbox Scarlett when it releases. The rumor seemed to be mentioned again by Colin Moriarty, a former IGN journalist on Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast. Moriarty said he’s heard PlayStation 5 is “definitely more powerful” than the upcoming Xbox console is.
So far it’s just speculation, but it seems to give Sony a leg up on the competition, so to speak. Neither Sony nor Microsoft, have revealed anything to give this any factual basis yet.
Sony originally had a more powerful console when they first released the PlayStation 4 console and Microsoft released Xbox One. However, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One giving it the title of most powerful of the available consoles.
As far as a release date for either console, those are also merely rumors at this point. There’s speculation from a Polygon report that a launch may happen in fall 2020 alongside or close to the Xbox Scarlett’s official release.
Rumors for prices are already looking more expensive than previous models. Some are saying the new Xbox Scarlett and PS5 could cost $400. Another report via VGR, indicates that Wedbush Securities video game analyst Michael Pachter gave a wild PlayStation 5 price prediction. Pachter believes it could go for $800, based on specs.
Until there’s official news on that, it could be safe to assume that it’s merely a wild prediction from Pachter as many gamers probably won’t be able to afford a system that costs the price of a computer.
