Tim Cook on Female Participation in Technology

Tim Cook has spoken out on the gender imbalance in most global technology firms. He lamented the lack of enough women in major tech companies, including his very own Apple. Cook added that the lack of a diverse workforce is detrimental to the overall growth of the technology sector. However, he said there were no excuses to make for not including women in top technology positions.

Tim also applauded the recent metaverse and Augmented Reality (AR) developments, noting that they will significantly impact the industry. So profound will be the influence of the two that people in the future will be surprised at how we survived without AR.

AR combines digital developments with actual reality. For example, if you are shopping for virtual furniture, you can use a camera to preview how it would look in your home.

As for the metaverse, the operations are entirely virtual. One of the big companies that is focusing its operations on the metaverse is Meta, which was previously known as Facebook.

As Apple’s executive, Cook is in charge of many of the company’s development programs. Recently, the firm started a program that is focused entirely on uplifting female app developers and tech proprietors in the UK. He spoke on the program and said that it is a reflection of technology on humanity, and the essence is to incorporate more women into the sector.

According to Tim Cook, technology is a great tool that can be used to achieve great things. However, he also acknowledged that having different opinions is the key to developing ground-breaking solutions. For Apple, achieving the much-needed diversity in their workforce is not going to be a difficult thing. Their figures indicate that its global staff comprised 35 percent of female workers in 2021.

One of the factors contributing to a low number of female employees in the technology sector is the low participation of girls and women in technical subjects. Mathematics, tech, and engineering courses have a lower number of females compared to males.

Cook concluded by saying that it should be mandatory for people to study basic coding before they finish school to have a general idea of how it works.
