There have been concerns for many years about the amount of radiation that is produced by cell phones. There has never been any conclusive data gathered on this subject. The prevailing thought is that the radiation might not be as dangerous to young people because they grew up with cell phones. However, that has never been proven one way or the other. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently been testing smartphones that are made by both Apple and Samsung. They found that many of these phones are emitting more radiation that American laws currently permit. Apple has said that the testing was not done accurately.
Samsung also denied that the radiation levels of their phones are higher than the FCC allows. Studies are still being conducted. There are some people who believe that using a cell phone on a regular basis will cause brain cancer because of the constant radiation that is so close to your head. This is just a theory that has never been proven in a lab. The FCC has not revealed what potential punishments they might levy against Apple and Samsung. It is unclear if there will be an appeals process that both companies can use to avoid any fines from the FCC.
The risk to people is not as great now as when smartphones first came on the market. There are now headphones that you can buy that will allow you to talk on your smartphone without putting it against your head. These are becoming very popular among people who are nervous about the potential risks that are presented from the constant use of cell phones. There have been campaigns to get children to not talk on the phone for more than 30 minutes a day to avoid excessive radiation exposure.
Apple and Samsung have a massive percentage of the smartphone market in the United States. Therefore, complying with FCC regulations as it pertains to radiation levels is very important to doing business in the country. They need to be sure that they are complying with all of the rules and regulations to avoid and fines or other penalties that the FCC might levy against them. However, both companies are maintaining that their phones are safe to use and there is no danger to users whatsoever. The FCC and both tech companies did not have any further comments on the matter. It will be interesting to see what happens.
