The Skywalker saga has finally come to an end. “The Rise of Skywalker” was recently released to packed theaters and scathing reviews. Disney does not have any new Star Wars films in the works at the present time. However, the entertainment giant is not going to let a property as popular as Star Wars collect dust for a few years. On the contrary, they already have a few new shows in the works that take place in the Star Wars universe. There will be a new season of the “Clone Wars” animated series that will be released next year. The series has been praised as one of the best animated shows to come out in the past decade.
There are also a pair of live-action Star Wars shows that are currently in development that will be available exclusively on Disney+. The first series will come out next year. It does not have a title as of yet. It will star two of the characters from the “Rogue One” film. The second series will see Ewan McGregor once again don the robe of Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series will most likely be released at some point in 2021. However, Disney has not provided a specific release date for the series.
Disney knows that making new Star Wars content will be very important when it comes to gaining new subscribers after their very successful launch in November. This is why the company is going to be focusing on making Star Wars shows for Disney+ instead of theatrical movies in the near future. The response to “The Mandalorian” has been overwhelmingly positive. The show has been a bigger hit than the execs at Disney could have ever imagined. They are hoping that future Star Wars projects will generate similar positive buzz for their new streaming platform.
The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series will take place at some point between episodes three and four of the movie series. That means there is a possibility that Darth Vader might make an appearance at some point. The filming of that series will start very soon. The scripts for every episode have all be completed. There is a very bright future ahead for Disney+. The streaming platform certainly has a lot more to offer than only Star Wars. However, a large amount of its future success will hinge on Disney’s ability to keep Star Wars fans happy.
